What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural healthcare profession underpinned by three basic tenants of science, art and philosophy.  Many people seek chiropractic care for a variety of neuromusculoskeletal problems and have great succees. The reason for this is that the unique approach and treatment goal is to improve optimal nervous system function, allowing the brain and body to better coordinate health in response to its internal and external environment.
Why Do We Need Chiropractc?
Throughout life, we are faced with a variety of chemical, physical and emotional stress, which can negatively affect our health and wellbeing. Our nervous system (the brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls everything in our body and any impact on the function of our nervous system will impact our health. Our spine plays an integral role in helping to protect our central nervous system by providing a coat of armour so to speak. The 24 vertebrae that form the spinal column will protect unless we are faced with prolonged stress or trauma. This will effect the structure and function of the spine. For example, if the spine is under a postural stress, or you experience a car accident that changes the structure of your spine, this can often compromise the peripheral nerves as they exit the spinal column. The result is a compromise to our health which can be expressed by any number of symptoms.  Due to the spine’s integral role in nervous system function, chiropractors help to maintain a healthy spine, in order to maintain a healthy nervous system, allowing you to express optimum health.
How Does Chiropractic Work?
At Maple Chiropractic, we adjust the spine to remove interference from, restore and maintain optimal nervous system function, allowing the body to reconnect back to its incredible potential to heal and perform.
With a natural philosophy, evidence-informed science and a constantly developing art, we assess, guide and tailor Chiropractic care to your body to allow it to heal and perform the way it was designed to; all in a unique, professional and comfortable setting.
Innate Healing
Health is the body’s constant innate drive to meet and match the demands of its internal and external environment.
The body has an incredible inborn recuperative power to heal itself. An example of this is that of a cut on our hand, which sews itself together, not because of a bandage over it but because of the innate design that always acts to regenerate it. The body knows where the cut is, sends the signals required to initiate a 4 stage healing process without you having to give it a single thought.  Like all other processes, healing takes time and is a dynamic process that requires the right parameters such as a well functioning nervous system, nutrition, and sleep to name a few. Without one or more of these parameters, the healing process can be inefficient and take longer. In life today we put ourselves under so much stress that it’s common for us to take more steps backward in our health than forward.  The principles of Chiropractic care create a way of clearing the path for the healing process to take place without interference.
History of Chiropractic
It was first invented back in 1895 in the USA when a learned man called D.D Palmer first adjusted a deaf janitor’s spine and thus restoring his hearing. D.D worked the rest of his life adjusting people’s spines, which produced many profound ‘miracles.’
D.D. taught his son BJ Palmer how to be a chiropractor and BJ dedicated his life to developing the profession by relentlessly studying the body, developing techniques, building schools and of course adjusting people, as a result helping thousands more achieve better health. BJ questioned everything and over his lifespan wrote a multitude of books, which became the timeless philosophy of chiropractic.
Chiropractic as a profession has certainly evolved over the years to what it is now, one of its greatest strengths is the large spectrum of ways to practice it.
Visiting a chiropractor would constitute an in depth initial consultation complete with a history and physical exam, including orthopaedic and neurological testing. There are additional special tests including a digital posture scan, Surface Emg scan to assess nervous system tension/activity and digital x-ray may also be required.  The thorough assessment allows us to accurately determine the underlying cause of your health problem and choose the best course of action for care moving forward in order to get you the best results possible.
If you have any health issues that you feel need to be addressed or want to make sure you have optimal spine health, contact your local chiropractor for an assessment.
